SAINTS MARCH MAJESTICALLY ON AS RIVALS GO DOWN : Birkirkara St. Joseph – 4: Zabbar Crystal Blues – 1

As expected Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club made easy work of the Blues of Zabbar with an emphatic 4-1 victory, as the news reached the Club that their main rivals for the main honours, Gzira United, went down to an unexpected defeat at the hands of third place Zurrieq Wolves. The Saints now are at the top of the table on equal points with Gzira, but with a game in hand. The showdown will be on the 8th March, when both teams clash head on to claim the championship.

Goals kept flowing for the Saints in the first half as a depleted Zabbar side could not even get the ball out of their own half.  With a four goal cushion, the Saints let off the gas as they made three changes in the side  for the second half.  Zabbar’s consolation goal was a freak one and a moment of loss of concentration by the Saints defence.

A victory against Gzira will wrap it up for the Saints, and the fixture against the Rovers of Valletta will be a formality.  It will return the Saints to the top flight as champions.
