Birkirkara St. Joseph’s four times Malta Triathlon Champion, Keith Galea started the new year on a high note, placing second in the third race of the Road Running League organised by the Malta Amateur Athletic Association. This third race was held in Bugibba on the 3rd January, in very tough weather conditions with an ice-cold wind harassing the runners all along the two-lap 10-kilometre route.

Galea started the race at a very fast pace aiming at keeping race favourite Andrew Grech well within reach.  At the early stages of the race, both athletes managed to open a good gap on ensuing field. This early surge was enough to give the Saints’ triathlete a comfortable second placing, conscious that Grech’s pace would be too fast as the race progressed. Notwithstanding the continuous gushes of wind, Galea managed to hold on to the gap he had in the early stages to finish the race in a good second place in a time of 34 minutes, 30 seconds.

Mellieha A.C.’s Andrew Grech finished first in 32 minutes, 55 seconds, with St. Patrick’s A.C.’s Clive Gerada finishing third in 34 minutes, 55 seconds. Contacted after the race, Galea said that he was very pleased with yet another good performance and placing. He explained how he was not expecting such a performance, as he was still in the first block of his training regime.  However he was very satisfied as such a performance proved that his running training was going really well and was now looking forward to take on the upcoming running races.

Galea, who is under the KMS Flexi Training Scheme, would like to thanks his sponsors, Garmin Malta, Malta Challenge Marathon, BBB Bike Parts Malta, Starbene 24/7, Jaycee Malta, the Malta Triathlon Federation, his Club Birkirkara St Joseph, the Kunsill Malti Ghall- isport and the Maltese Olympic Committee for their constant support.
