SAINTS SCRAPE PAST SAFI A.F.C. – Birkirkara St. Joseph – 1: Safi A.F.C. - 0

Birkirkara St. Joseph retained their placing at the top of the table, following a hard fought victory against a resilient and disciplined Safi formation, that managed to control a dominant Saints performance, who threatened to go rampant at the very early stages of the match.

Denis Caruana

It was as early as the second minute that the Yellows took the lead through a well taken goal by skipper Denis Caruana.  However the Whites of Safi recovered quickly, and it was only a couple of brilliant back-to-back saves by the Saints’ custodian that kept his side in the driving seat.  From then onwards Birkirkara St. Joseph dictated play, without however showing any results for their efforts due to a number of missed chances.  In the final stages of the match Safi threw caution to the wind, pushing more men up front and putting the Saints’ defence under intensive pressure.  Birkirkara St. Joseph weathered this onslaught unscathed, to take home the three points and stay top.
