Birkirkara St. Joseph’ national triathlon champion Keith Galea sustained his relentless top performances with another great result in last Sunday’s Attard’s 10km Road Running Race organised by the Attard A.C. in conjunction with Attard Local Council.

Galea opened a gap on the main group as early as the the first kilometre and settled in his own race pace. At that stage of the race he managed to increase the gap without difficulty. However as the race progressed, Charlie Cilia of Agones S.C. started to threaten the Saint’s gap.  Galea reacted immediately by turning on a very fast pace in the second half of the race, which kept his nearest opponent at bay to finish the in second place in a time of 33minutes, 47 seconds. The race was won by Mellieha’s  Andrew Grech in 32 minutes, 32 seconds, while Charlie Cilia finished in third place in a time of 33 minutes, 58 seconds

Contacted after the race, Galea said that he was very pleased with his performance. He was not expecting a particularly fast time as his coach did not taper his training schedule, thus taking on the 10 kilometres on rather tired legs. This was a great result for the Birkirkara St. Joseph triathlete which is solid prove that his preparations for the forthcoming triathlon in March valid for selection for the Commonwealth Games, are well and truly on coarse.

Following his superb results both in triathlon and in long distance running, earlier on last month the Malta Challenge Marathon announced that they will be sponsoring Galea with Hilly and Ron Hill clothing and accessories.  Event director Mr. Barry Whitmore expressed his satisfaction of having Galea among the six top local athletes the Malta Challenge Marathon is sponsoring.

Galea would like to thank his sponsors Garmin Malta, BBB Bike Parts Malta, Jaycee Malta, Starbene Shop of Mosta , Malta Challenge Marathon and the KMS for the 20/20 Elite scheme for their constant support
