GALEA THIRD IN ATTARD 10K

Birkirkara St. Joseph’s National Triathlon Champion Keith Galea produced an outstanding performance in the Attard 10km Road Race held last Sunday. The Saint placed himself with the front pack from the beginning, at times taking the initiative to lead the race. At the 4-kilometre mark, Mellieha’s Andrew Grech opened the pace, which brought an immediate reaction from Galea and Polish professional Triathlete Mateusz Kaźmierczak to battle it out at the front.

With 2 kilometres to go, the Pole took the lead, increasing his pace with every stride.  Both Galea’s and Grech’s reaction was not good enough to challenge the leader who went on to win  in 33 minutes 30 seconds. Andrew Grech finished second , 7 seconds behind the winner, and Galea finished the race in third place in a personal best time of 33 minutes 42 seconds.

In his comments to bkarastjoseph.com after the race, Galea said that he was very pleased with his performance. In fact he was not expecting a personal best especially after the slow pace of the race in the early stages.  It was only after 4km that the pace actually picked up steadily. This result was also somewhat special for him as it was his first podium finish following his Garmin Malta sponsorship.   Asked about his next important commitment, the Malta Half Marathohn, Galea said that he is aiming to reach his peak fitness in time for this race in a week time.  His preparation are right on course and he is very confident of a very good result.

In the end Galea, who is currently under the 20/20 KMS Elite Scheme, thanked his sponsors Garmin Malta, Starbene Shop of Mosta and BBB Bike parts for the their constant support.
